May Mandala and Reflections

As May draws to a close, I feel a little bittersweet. This month has been a really intense period of self-discovery and growth for me (more on that later) and I’ve attached a lot of meanings to the projects that I’ve worked on! And boy, have there been projects! I joined TikTok and have been sharing little videos on there of my creative projects if you’d like to join me there! I’ve also created an online community to host Bunker Games and so much more. Check it out here if you’d like, all are welcome.

As far as projects, there have been many! This time of year is a flower explosion, backed strongly by the color purple (my synesthetic association for the Month of May!) Let’s start with the lovely purples… Whether it’s lavender lemon donuts with playful sprinkles or scones full of lilacs and strawberries, I absolutely LOVE using purple sweet potatoes in recipes - not just for their remarkable color, but for their flavor and texture too! These are the best gluten-free donuts I’ve tasted so far. But my explorations of bright colors didn’t stay in the realm of the sweet… I was really excited about a few extra special savory recipes this month too. From delicate little floral cakes that turned out to be savory potatas causa filled with lion’s mane mushrooms, to beautiful millefiori-inspired sushi made with wildcrafted ingredients, I enjoy the challenge of making savory treats as beautiful as sweet ones. Let’s not forget the gluten-free fougasse recipe paired with ramps aioli, a delightful recipe for picnics!

I was also really inspired by May Day, Beltane, and other seasonal celebrations! I created these magical edible dewdrops so that anyone can feel like a fairy. I also shared a recipe for May Wine Spritzers that’s based on an ancient European tradition this time of year. Since I had some leftover wine, I made a beautiful glowing MayWine tart with pears poached in saffron and infused wine. Yum!

Finally, some not-so-edible treats: instructions for making your own flower crown, plus a fun recipe for natural blush made from roses and alkanet root. I’ve also been working away at my Muse Series, statement necklaces in honor of people that inspire me up and down the West coast. It has been so much fun to distill their essence into a piece of wearable art. If you want to follow the progression of these creative projects, the best way to do so is to follow me on Facebook or Instagram.

I have so many ideas for June, I can’t wait to share them with you! To me, June is all about ethereal light and color - shimmering opals, summertime sunsets, and things that just seem to glow. Lots of magic to come. :)

Patrons in my upper tiers should be getting their second seasonal collectable poster in July! I'm so excited to be able to offer this quarterly gift to them in thanks for their support.
