Reflections on December
December is a time of kindhearted mischief and finding creative ways to keep the darkness at bay. During the longest nights of the year, we gather in the illumination of our environments and loved ones to celebrate and shine. This is a great time of year to recognize and celebrate the darkness, too. From Shadow Walkers Bitters to celestial soups, the beauty of the night sky is especially apparent on these long winter nights. It was under a moon like this one that I was born, and I celebrated my birthday this year with some very special plans.
It's wonderful to look to ancient traditions for inspiring winter party ideas. I have always loved the tradition of Buche de Noel (Yule log cakes), and this year I put a little savory spin on mine, perfect for Yule parties! It's extra tasty when paired with a stunning mock-tail, helping to make those holiday parties more inclusive.
Red seems to be the color of the month, from ancient references to the colors of Yule to the heartiness of borscht soup, and scarlet sumac clusters punctuating the winter landscape. It's also the season of going slow, so don't forget to pause and notice the magic around you amidst all of the holiday craziness. I've got a few more surprises for you before this month is out, including a BUNCH of fun recipes BEFORE Christmas! (Prepare yourselves!!)
